Joseph Aistrup
Dr. Aistrup knows his fair share about politics. The Kansas State University associate professor and head of the department of political science specializes in American government, Kansas politics, public policy and methodology, and leads, coordinates and facilitates the teaching, research and service activities of K-State's department of political science. Along with teaching political science classes in U.S. government, state and local politics, elections and political parties, public policy analysis and research methods, Aistrup has published numerous journal articles and one book. His most recent publications include "Constituency Diversity and Party Competition: A County and State Level Analysis," in Political Research Quarterly and "Defining the Available Labor Pool: The Kansas Labor Force Survey," in Economic Development Quarterly. He has prepared many convention papers, applied survey research reports, public presentations and legislative testimonies on a variety of policy topics. <jaistrup@ksu.edu>
John Carlin
Carlin has a long record of public service to the state and to the nation. He was first elected to public office in 1970 as a member of the Kansas House of Representatives. He became assistant minority leader of the House in 1975, minority leader from 1976-77, and was speaker of the House from 1977-79. He then was elected the 40th governor of Kansas and served from 1979 to 1987. In 1995, Carlin became the national archivist. He was nominated to the post by President Bill Clinton and served until 2005. Carlin joined K-State in fall 2005. He also serves as the executive-in-residence to the master of public administration program. <jwcarlin@ksu.edu>
The Call
The Online Journal of Rural Research and Policy, a peer-reviewed web journal focused on the issues and policies of the Great Plains, is calling for articles addressing political science and rural communities. Suggested topics range across rural political organizations, political phenomena in rural environments, rural influence in state and federal policy, farm policy, feedyard policy, transportation, rural consolidation, environmental politics, water rights, and transmigrational communities. This is not intended as a defining list of areas. The journal is open to papers in any area dealing with rural issues. Traditional research-based articles, law and policy papers, as well as essays and "think pieces" are welcome.
Deadline for submission is July 15. Authors will be notified by August 15 of acceptance. Publication will be September 15.
Submissions policy
We accept a manuscript for publication with the understanding that we have sole publication rights and that the work has not been published elsewhere. We support the access of research in Open Access and, as such, support the publication of all author works through electronic archives within their university, agency, or corporation.
Submissions should be sent electronically in Microsoft Word, preferably in a Rich Text Format (.rtf) file. Authors unfamiliar with RTF may contact OJRRP Editor Thomas Gould at thpgould@gmail.com for specifics.
Manuscript preparation/organization:
OJRRP encourages electronic submissions. Authors should provide
- a title, followed by
- keywords
- an abstract
- the body of the work (with notations for insertion of graphs and charts)
- en notes (Chicago Style, 15th edition, is preferred, but we do not require conversions until the work is accepted).
- associated tables and graphs (please provide these either as GIFs, JPEGs or PDFs. Again, authors unfamiliar with these formats, should contact OJRRP Editor Thomas Gould at thpgould@gmail.com for specifics).
Special Acknowledgements
The author should provide material for an identifying note. This note may include acknowledgments for financial assistance, advice, access to special materials, etc., and indicate whether the article is based on a dissertation or thesis or has been presented orally.
Note style
Please use endnotes, rather than footnotes, and follow the Chicago Manual of Style for citation format.
Hyperlinks
OJRRP wants to provide readers with any pertinent hyperlinks to other material/information throughout the text of articles. Authors should recommend hyperlinks and indicate precisely where they are to be placed in the text. The editors will make suggestions, from time to time, of where hyperlinks might be used to extend the value of the work to readers. Authors will be consulted on the propriety of these hyperlinks. Hyperlinks should be placed after the word or phrase the author wishes to have used as the hyperlink, thusly:
The quick red fox <open> jumped <http://www.redfox.org> over the lazy brown dog.
Keywords
Authors should provide keywords to describe the research. These will be used to help researchers find the work online. At least 12 keywords are encouraged, but authors may include as many as they feel are appropriate.
